While the majority rave about their experiences, Knight's Fish Bar has some areas for improvement. One common critique is the cash-only payment policy, which may inconvenience some patrons who prefer card payments.
Another concern raised is the wait time during peak hours. Friday evenings are particularly busy, attracting a full house at 7 PM, which may lead to longer waits for takeaway orders. As a result, customers have advised planning visits outside of peak times for a smoother experience.
Finally, while the atmosphere is beloved by many, some patrons prefer a more contemporary setting rather than the old-school decor, which might feel outdated to newcomers.
Solid fish and chips, hit the spot. Haddock was cooked fresh for me. Bossman is friendly.
Perfect fish and chips. ❤️❤️❤️ The haddock and cod are both my favourite. You dont need to travel out of London to get the good stuff. This is your proper traditional fish and chip. Cooked in real beef fat / dripping / tallow. You can have the delicious fish and chips and not worry about vegetable oils killing you. Super delicious and generous portions. Really lovely kind owner. Cash only and worth every penny. Highly Recommended!! The only place we eat fish and chips from.
INCREDIBLE ! amazing value for such delicious food ! So glad we came here - he was so friendly too :)
No doubt the best fish bar in South London and one of the best in London. Guardian restaurant food critic said one of the in Europe! The owner is a star. An icon. You won't regret a visit and will come back again and again.
I only got chips but I think fish and chip chips are a good barometer of a chippy. So good ! Crispy but soft , also the lady was lovely and the vibes are so old school in there. I saw a piece of fish in the hot lamp and I walked home wishing I got fish and chips instead of just chips. Also I got a medium chips and can’t even finish a quarter of it . A gorgeous place and a local legend.
20 years of YUMMY! I was house sitting in the area and had a vague recollection of going to this chip shop as a teen. I remembered really good fish and chips shared with my boyfriend who has now sadly passed on. These were good memories of good food shared. 😋 Few of the great fish and chip shops from back in the day exist and few chip shops do a proper fish and chips. So I was very much hoping this was the same fish and chip shop and the same owner. It was the same fish and chip shop and the owner was the same. I am bowled over by the owner having run his fish and chip restaurant for 45 years. He is an institution selling an institution lol. He gave me a warm welcome and an even warmer one after I said why I was returning. The fish and chips is just as good as I remember. It is proper old school fish and chips. Not too greasy, not to wet and chips as full of flavour as the fish is. That is 45 years of fish and chip cooking perfection I tasted this week gone.
Still the best. Forget the rest. Trad, lots of it and good chat. They fully apologised for the lack of Spam Fritters, it was due to lack of real spam supplied anymore! Please go. Its brill and the pub nearby.
The cod fillet and haddock are standout choices. They cook the fish in real beef dripping, which adds incredible flavor. For a hearty bite, try the saveloy alongside their perfectly cooked chips.
